Rock variation
The Rockvariation project aims for inclusion and participation through music and dance.
About the project
Ekeby BK together with Eventkonsult Mälardalen AB, Giggity Musik and produktion AB, DansLola and Stina Elg want to offer people with disabilities a musical experience where they themselves are participants. The target group will get to record an album, as well as organize a concert per year where they themselves are the artists. The activities will be a mix of music and dance.
The purpose of the project is for the target group to feel included and independent. Participation is about this group being able to actively contribute to and be a part of the project. This means being able to choose independently, make their own decisions, and influence the implementation of the project to the greatest extent possible. Participation also requires that services, products, and environments are accessible to the target group.
Research also shows that participation is closely linked to motivation as participating individuals perform tasks better and feel better. Lola Svensson (DansLola) is a trained instructor in Dance for Health and will in the project drive a research-based initiative where dance is used to enhance mental well-being. An active initiative that strengthens positive lifestyle habits for the target group. Dance/movement/experience to music can make a big difference with small means.
Stina Elg writes music and works a lot with the target group.
The project works to increase physical and mental health, which is currently a major challenge for the target group and society at large.
The background described by the project applicant who has extensive experience with their target group: The target group consists of individuals with various disabilities and is currently a very vulnerable group in society. Many of them cannot even voice their opinions and are completely dependent on us around them even when it comes to various activities. It is only when they get the opportunity to do things that it becomes clear that they truly benefit from it. For example, when they participate in Ekeby BK's various activities and when they get to perform on stage with Eventkonsult Mälardalen. The joy they show in those contexts cannot be misinterpreted; it is genuine.
Some examples of this are this film from the project's kick-off.
