Women's support in community for health and well-being

A project to meet the need for support and community among women, especially mothers, who often give of themselves without giving themselves time to receive.

About the project

We wanted to implement this project to meet the need for support and community among women, especially mothers, who often give of themselves without taking the time to receive. Many women experience burnout and stress, and this event aims to offer them a place to reflect on recovery, strengthen their health, and create meaningful connections with other women in the area.

Historically, women have gathered in community to share knowledge, support, and wisdom, especially in rural areas. One example of this is the Swedish mountain pasture culture, where women gathered in the summers to take care of livestock together. These occasions involved not only work but also a sense of freedom and empowerment, where women strengthened each other by sharing experiences and supporting one another in their daily lives. This type of gathering has largely been lost in our modern society. Through this event, we wanted to inspire and offer women an opportunity to learn and grow together.

In larger cities, there are often more events and meeting places where mothers and women can gather, but in rural areas, these opportunities are fewer. At the same time, the sense of community is often stronger in rural areas, and it is precisely this feeling of togetherness and support that we want to highlight and strengthen through our event.

The public benefit of the project is to improve women's health and well-being in a sustainable way, create a stronger community locally, and inspire future events and initiatives that promote women's health in Örsundsbro and surrounding areas, while highlighting the importance of living in harmony with the cycles of nature and their own biology.

The project was carried out through a structured day where participants could engage in several different activities. Under the guidance of Ingrid (somatic coach and wellness coach), along with Sara (yoga instructor and designer/interior architect focusing on women's health), the day was filled with yoga, lectures, and workshops where we discussed, for example, the importance of nutrition for our health and did exercises around stress management. The day began with a welcome circle, followed by activities that strengthen physical and mental health. We cooked and prepared the nutritious lunch and snacks together, which were then served and presented based on how diet can support women's health in everyday life. Historically, women have gathered to support each other, and we wanted to revive this tradition by creating a place where participants can receive support and knowledge in a nature-close environment. The day concluded with a reflection and an opportunity for participants to share their experiences and take new insights home.
