Soldier cottage inventory in Kungsör

The project aims to create a ”Digital Museum” with the 90 soldier cottages. Thousands of soldiers with families populated the soldier cottages and the maintenance in the agrarian society.

About the project

The project intends to highlight the disappearing knowledge about the development of the Kungsör region from the early 18th century, through the introduction of the Younger Division System, via land reform to the transition to universal conscription, etc., in an easily accessible way. The project will result in a ”Digital Museum” with the 90 soldier cottages, the thousands of soldiers with families who populated them.

Work is ongoing to find the cottages, inventory the status of the cottages, and research the information started through a public meeting organized by the Local Heritage Association in 2020, and is now being driven in collaboration between the municipality, adult education, the local heritage association, and the genealogy association in an open circle format with about 10 active researchers. History enthusiasts can easily find our compiled information through searches via the usual social media, but to reach others, both old and young, locally raised as well as newcomers to spontaneously become interested in local history, we want to set up ”Soldier Cottage Signs” with QR links to our ”digital museum” at the locations of the cottages, along the municipality's marketed walking and cycling paths, as well as at places and activities where people meet in the municipality.
