Funkis Festival
A project for individuals within LSS to be given the opportunity to participate in community activities like other citizens, with unique abilities.
About the project
The project idea was to conduct a funkis festival on February 27, 2025, for individuals within LSS, the law that supports and services certain individuals with disabilities. To give these individuals the opportunity to take part and take a place in the social community. To put these individuals on the map and show other citizens that we are all different.
For individuals within LSS to be given the opportunity to participate in community activities like other citizens with their unique abilities. The target group is not given the opportunity to participate in society to the same extent as normative individuals. The individuals who participate are a vulnerable and marginalized group and through the project, they can be part of a positive context that strengthens the individuals. This event also gives other citizens the opportunity to see, participate, and come closer to the target group. It is beneficial for both the target group and other citizens that we are all different, can participate in society based on our own conditions, and that society contributes to highlighting the individuals.
The goal of the project is for this music competition to have a chance to establish itself and become a recurring event every year. That we who work around this and together with the artists get politicians and local businesses to want to invest in the event and see that it makes a difference for the target group. That we show other citizens, businesses, and community functions that everyone has the right to participate. That the event should create ripples by allowing politicians and local businesses to meet individuals within LSS and through the meeting be enriched by all that these individuals provide and make politics prioritize this event.
The goal is also a higher integration in society and to highlight a group that today stands outside and with the right conditions can participate and enrich society in both small and large ways. That these individuals get to take a larger place and are given the opportunity to connect with the local parts of society where many individuals today stand outside. Participation is a human right, but as it is today, the target group is both outside and not participating to the same extent as the norm.
By showing what many of these individuals are good at, they also get the opportunity to showcase their strengths and the joy that these individuals bring. Many people who are not part of LSS are often characterized by an outdated view based on ignorance and fear. This is what we wish to take a step to change by opening up for personal meetings combined with music. And through this, open up for more participation and inclusion.
